    November 6-9, 2019 Kolkata India
  • MGMI Promotes The Cause Of Mineral Industry
    Since 1906

The Preamble

The Mining, Geological and Metallurgical Institute of India (MGMI), established way back on 16th January 1906, is a national professional body and is one of the oldest Institutes of this kind in the world. Since inception, it is working to promote and advance the Mining and Mineral Industries of the country and in general. The Asian Mining Congress (AMC) and International Mining Exhibition (IME), held concurrently, are flagship International events organised by MGMI biennially. These events provide with ample opportunities to all stake holders including practising engineers, machinery manufacturers, planners, regulators, academicians, scientists and policy makers, for sharing knowledge, experience, expertise and exhibit their products that can benefit the Mining and Mineral Industries in the Asian region in particular and rest of the world at large.
The first Asian Mining Congress was held in January 2006 to commemorate the centenary of MGMI. The 2nd AMC was held in January 2008, the 3rd in January 2010, the 4th in January 2012, the 5th in February 2014, the 6th in February 2016 and the 7th in November 2017. The conference received very good response Internationally with participation of around 600 delegates from India and abroad in each event. Useful contributions were made by the experts from Asian countries such as Bangladesh, China, Indonesia, Iran, Mongolia, Oman, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Thailand, Turkey etc. as well as from the Indian Mineral Industries. The conference proceedings were further enriched by valuable contributions of eminent professionals from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Poland, South Africa, Sweden, UK and USA.
The 8th Asian Mining Congress and International Mining Exhibition, in this sequel, will be held from November 6 - 9, 2019 in Kolkata. In this conference, invitations will be extended to all Asian Mineral rich countries for active participation. Other countries, who have made significant contributions in evolving best mining practices and green mining, will be invited to participate.

The Background

The Asia region is a significant producer of metals and metal ore; the production of some major metal commodities accounts for more than half of the world’s total. This region also produces Coal more than 65% of global production. With vast area and wide diversity of geological set-up in Asia, it is likely that every kind of deposit is present in this continent. Therefore, the Asian countries play a very important role for strategising future mining activities in the world.
In this backdrop, the Congress will provide a forum to promote and advance techno-scientific cooperation towards National and International progress in the areas of mineral production, in addition to the development of new opportunities for sustainable business that will benefit both Asian and global communities.

India is a wonderful country of great diversity, from the exotic scenic beauty of the great Himalayas with eternal snowcapped mountains in the North to the luxuriant coconut groves of the Malabar Coast in the South; from the desolate loneliness of the deserts and dotted with beautiful palaces in Rajasthan and Gujarat in the West to the rich cultivated thickly populated Gangetic plains in the East. It has more than 7600 km long beautiful coastline, which attracts tourists round the year. India has a civilization which is more than 5000 years old. The glories of the past stand side-by-side with wonders of modern science and engineering. India has a great and stirring past and is presently a very fast developing nation.

    Host City: Kolkata

Kolkata is a vibrant modern metropolis of 10 million plus population and is the Gateway to Eastern and Northeastern States of India. The city is well connected by international and domestic airlines and also by rail network with rest of the country.
